Beavers Edge Past Cal, 1-0
October 07, 2021 | Men's Soccer
BERKELEY, Calif. – The Oregon State men's soccer team edged past California, 1-0, in Berkeley, Calif. on Thursday. The No. 15 ranked Beavers are now 7-1-1 on the season and 3-0-0 in Pac-12 play.
"I'm exceptionally proud of our group," said head coach Terry Boss. "Cal sat very low and made it difficult at times. Cal is a good team and hard to play at home. Our group showed a resilience to stay the course and were ultimately rewarded for their effort in the end."
Despite dominating possession in the first half and out-shooting the Golden Bears 12-0, the Beavers and Golden Bears were tied at 0-0 at the half. Oregon State took eight more shots in the second half compared to Cal's three.
In the 87th minute of action, junior Sofiane Djeffal headed the ball in the net off of freshman Joran Gerbet's corner, earning the sole goal of the match as well as his fourth goal of the season.
Between the pipes, senior Adrian Fernandez notched one save, posting his fourth solo shutout of the season and 18th in his career. The Beavers tallied eight shots on goal out of 20 shots total and took eight corner kicks throughout the game.
