Beavers Earn Road Draw at Stanford
October 10, 2021 | Men's Soccer
STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 15 Oregon State men's soccer team earned a road draw at Stanford Sunday afternoon, as the Beavers and Cardinal finished level at 2-2 at Cagan Stadium in Stanford, Calif.
Â
With the tie, Oregon State maintains its undefeated record in conference play, as the team now has three wins and one draw in conference action and moves to 7-1-2 on the season.
Â
The Beavers took an early 2-0 lead on goals from Adrian Molina-Diaz and Sofiane Djeffal. The two are now tied for the team lead with five goals apiece on the campaign.
Â
Oregon State has recorded two wins, four ties and one loss against Stanford since the 2018 season.
Â
The Beavers wasted little time opening the scoring, as a beautiful touch from Tyrone Mondi put Molina-Diaz in on goal. The forward made no mistake from there, slotting the ball past the keeper to give Oregon State the lead in the third minute.
Â
It looked as though OSU might double the advantage in the 16th, as Mondi forced a save, and Molina-Diaz nearly put home the rebound. Djeffal netted the Beavers' second in the 22nd minute, converting a penalty kick following a Stanford handball.
Â
The Cardinal cut the advantage in half in the 33rd, and leveled the score in the 36th to send the game to the break even at 2-2.
Â
Gael Gibert came close to heading one home on a corner kick in the 55th minute. Adrian Fernandez came up with a brilliant save in the 65th to keep things level.
Â
Stanford was reduced to 10 men following an 87th-minute red card. Dante Williams put one just over the bar in the 90th, as the two sides headed to overtime.
Â
The Beavers were on the front-foot for most of the first extra period, but were unable to end things as the sides headed to a second overtime. The final extra session featured more of the same, but neither side was able to come up with a golden-goal as they split the points.
Â
The Beavers will take a break from conference action this week, as Oregon State faces Saint Mary's Friday at Lorenz Field.
