Beavers Drop Conference Contest to No. 7 UCLA
October 15, 2021 | Women's Soccer
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 24 Oregon State women's soccer team fell, 4-1, to No. 7 UCLA in Corvallis, Ore. on Friday, snapping its two game winning streak and are now 11-3 overall and 3-3 during Pac-12 play.
"When we come out flat the way we did against a good team, the result will look like it did," said head coach Lauren Sinacola. "I am proud of what we did in the second half. We had a better mentality, we had players step up and we made some adjustments that our players ran with. In the end, we looked more like ourselves in the second half. We won't be seeing that first half team again."
UCLA (12-0-2) broke through early with a header in the 8th minute. The OSU defense held the Bruins to a 1-0 lead before allowing goals withing a 2:30 minute span and took Oregon State into the half at 3-0.
UCLA pushed their lead to four in the 54th minute of play. Freshman McKenna Martinez scored her seventh goal of the season in the 88th minute from a beautiful ball from the left back Bryana Pizarro, earning the Beavers' sole goal of the match.
Between the pipes, senior Bridgette Skiba posted seven saves. The Beavers tallied three shots on goal out of four shots total and took two corner kicks over the course of the game.
