Quarantine Q & A with Niya Mack
June 25, 2020 | Women's Gymnastics
Our gymnastics quarantine series continues with a Q & A with rising senior Niya Mack.
Q: Where have you spent the quarantine?
A: I am currently in Corvallis, but I did quarantine for about two months at home in Memphis.
Q: What is the biggest positive to come from your quarantine?
A: I have been able to give more attention and focus to school as well as figuring out what I want to do career-wise.
Q: What is your preferred work out location during quarantine?
A: Outside because I like to feel the sun on my skin.
Q: Abs or cardio?
A: Abs!
Q: What TV series have you enjoyed the most during the quarantine?
A: Money Heist was good, but I've also been watching a lot of different documentaries.
Q: What have you done during the quarantine that you didn't do during normal life?
A: Reading. I used to read all the time before coming to college and it was something I really enjoyed. It's been nice having more free time to pick that hobby back up.
Q: Have you done anything to improve yourself during quarantine?
A: I've taken more of an interest in self-care, which sadly I wasn't doing before. So I've been learning more about taking care of my skin, my hair and setting some time away to meditate or have some "me time."
Q: What was your favorite moment from the 2020 gymnastics season?
A: Going to Universal Studios with the team!
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: I want to be a financial planner.
Q: Is there a skill you're looking forward to learning during the offseason?
A: Upgrade my vault to a Yurchenko 1 ½.
Q: How is remote college working out? What has been your biggest school challenge?
A: It worked out great and I ended with all A's! It wasn't a challenge because I've taken the majority of my classes online since I was a freshman.
Q: What do you look forward to the most about getting back to Corvallis (or other people getting back to Corvallis?
A: I'm looking forward to getting back into the gym so I can do bars.
