Ryan Ober Named An Academic All-American
June 11, 2020 | Baseball
AUSTIN, Texas – Oregon State baseball junior Ryan Ober has been named a Second-Team Academic All-American, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday.
Ober, a finance major from Snohomish, Wash., becomes the seventh player in Oregon State history to earn the Academic All-America honor, joining Ken Bowen (1986, 1987), Bryan Ganter (1986, 1987), Mason Smith (1994), Ben Bertrand (1998), Mitch Canham (2007) and Jake Thompson (2017).
Ober earned the second-team spot at designated hitter after spending 2020 at both that spot and third base. He is the lone player from the Pac-12 Conference to be on any of three Academic All-America teams – 33 student-athletes in all.
The honor is his second of the week after being recognized on the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll on Monday. He was also an All-Academic First-Team selection in 2019.
Ober played in nine of the Beavers' 14 games in 2020, collecting 10 hits with a double, five runs batted in and three walks. He has played in 65 games over three seasons at Oregon State, starting 50, and is batting .250 with 10 doubles, three home runs and 27 RBI.
To be eligible for the honor, players must sport at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average – Ober's is at 3.66. Student-athletes were also selected based on career statistics.
