Beaver Football Classics Features 2019 Win over Arizona State
May 28, 2020 | Football
CORVALLIS – Oregon State University Athletics, in conjunction with Beaver Sports Properties, is excited to announce the fourth installment of the "Beaver Football Classics (BFC)." BFC is the rebroadcast of the Beaver Sports Radio Network coverage, brought to you by your local Toyota Dealers of some of the top Oregon State football games.
This week's BFC is from November 16, 2019, when Oregon State beat Arizona State 35-34 for second-year Beaver head coach Jonathan Smith's first Pac-12 victory at Reser Stadium.
The rebroadcast is available on the Beaver Sports Podcast page on OSUBeavers.com under the Fan Zone tab. The game will also air on TuneIn, SiriusXM, and via many of the Beaver Sports Radio Network stations (check station schedules for exact time), including 1240 KEJO in Corvallis Saturday at Noon.
GAME DETAILS
THE GAME – OSU entered the final home game of the 2019 season with a record of 4-5 overall, 3-3 in the Pac-12 with road victories at Arizona, UCLA, and California. Arizona State arrived attempting to snap a three-game losing streak after starting the year 5-1. The Sun Devils would win the final two games over Oregon and Arizona to advance to a bowl game.
JAKE LUTON – Beaver quarterback Jake Luton had a huge day in his final Beaver appearance at Reser Stadium. Luton was 26 of 35 for 288 yards with four touchdowns passing. One of the touchdown tosses went to receiver Isaiah Hodgins, also playing in what would be his final game, making it the 18th time (2nd in OSU history) the two were on the passing-touchdown receiving play connection. Overall, Hodgins made his 20th touchdown receiving that tied him for second for a career for a Beaver.
PHOENIX NATIVE TERRORIZES ASU: Hamilcar Rashed Jr., a native of Phoenix, disrupted the Sun Devil offense the whole game. He made two sacks, to set an OSU single-season record with 14, and four tackles-for-loss to also set a Beaver record with 22.5.
GAMBLE PART I: With Arizona State rallying back from a 35-21 deficit to 35-34 with 1:40 remaining, Sun Devil head coach Herm Edwards elected to go for a chance to win the game with a two-point conversion attempt. However, following a Beaver timeout, OSU's defense thwarted a potential game-lead changing desperation pass.
GAMBLE PART II: The following onside kick was recovered by OSU's Trevon Bradford. The Beavers were left to run out the remaining 1:39, but had to deal with two timeouts ASU had left in the game. OSU would face 4th and 2 at the ASU 44 and following two Jonathan Smith timeouts, the gambling coach decided to ice the game instead of giving ASU one last possession. Bradford figured again in a key late-game play as an intended pass from Luton was incomplete, but ASU was called for pass interference to conclude the game.
BOXSCORE
Season ticket prices for the 2020 season remain the same as for 2019, with an additional game and the 124th Civil War. For information on season tickets please call 541-737-2050 or online at osubeavers.com.
