May 20, 2020 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State University Athletics, in conjunction with Beaver Sports Properties, is excited to announce the newest installment of the "Beaver Baseball Classics (BBC)." BBC is the rebroadcast of the Beaver Sports Radio Network coverage, made possible this week by 10 Barrel Brewing Company, of some of the top Oregon State baseball games.
Drew Rasmussen's 2015 perfect game against Washington State will be rebroadcasted on Thursday. The rebroadcast begins at 3 p.m. PT and is available on the Beaver Sports Podcast page on OSUBeavers.com under the Fan Zone tab. The game will also air on TuneIn, SiriusXM, and via many of the Beaver Sports Radio Network stations (check station schedules for exact time), including 1240 KEJO in Corvallis Saturday at Noon.
Rasmussen's perfect game was the first in Oregon State's history, and came in a 3-0 win over Washington State at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. He needed just 103 pitches to complete the historic achievement, recording 10 strikeouts in the process.
Rasmussen's perfect game was just the fourth in Pac-12 Conference history and the first since 1973. It was the sixth no-hitter in Oregon State's history and the third in a five-year stretch that also included Josh Osich versus UCLA in 2011 and Jace Fry against Northern Illinois in 2014.
Drew Rasmussen Perfect Game Notes
• Six of Rasmussen's outs came via fly balls, 11 via ground balls.
• Rasmussen got to three ball counts just twice, recording ground outs both times.
• The then-freshman improved to 3-0 with the perfect game, and dropped his earned run average to 1.36.
• At that point in the season, he had walked just five batters to 40 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings.
• The Beavers managed just five hits of their own in the win. They scored a solo run in the first when KJ Harrison singled home a run. OSU added to the lead with two more in the seventh inning when Michael Gretler singled home a run and Trever Morrison squeezed in another.
• The win clinched the series over the Cougars after Oregon State had won 5-2 in the opener the previous night. The Beavers eventually swept the series with a 2-1 win in 11 innings the next day. Overall, Oregon State's pitching staff held WSU to three runs, 16 hits and two walks in the three-game series.
• The game lasted just one hour, 44 minutes. It's the shortest nine-inning game at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field since the stadium was renovated in 1999.
