Tanya Chaplin Returns to Lead OSU Gymnastics Program
April 01, 2020 | Women's Gymnastics
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State head gymnastics coach Tanya Chaplin has returned to full duty following a leave of absence due to health-related issues.
"I'm excited to resume all of my duties leading the Oregon State gymnastics program," Chaplin said. "My hiatus was much needed as I was able to focus more completely on my health and well-being."
"I'm grateful and proud of our staff for stepping in and taking on roles and responsibilities they weren't necessarily accustomed. I want to thank Scott Barnes and Marianne Vydra for their amazing support while I healed during this time, as well as to Mandi Rodriguez for putting her life on hold to return to the gym as an assistant and for continuing to push our student-athletes to strive for the best."
"I'm looking forward to returning to the gym to do what I love most, which is to coach this wonderful team."
Associate head coach Michael Chaplin directed the program as acting head coach, in his wife's absence which was announced on Jan. 30. The Beavers finished the year ranked No. 15 in the nation and we're peaking heading into the postseason when the campaign ended abruptly due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are thrilled to have Coach Tanya Chaplin return to lead this outstanding program and the exceptional student-athletes that represent Oregon State University," Vice President and Director of Athletics Scott Barnes said.
For Tanya Chaplin, the 2021 season will be her 24th at the helm of the Oregon State gymnastics program. She has led the Beavers to the NCAA postseason each year including 13 NCAA Championship appearances. The Beavers have won two conference titles and a pair of NCAA Regional titles during her tenure.
