Troy Claunch Named To Buster Posey Award Watch List
March 09, 2020 | Baseball
WICHITA, Kan. – Oregon State junior Troy Claunch has been named to the initial watch list for the Buster Posey Award, which is given annually to the nation's top collegiate catcher.
Claunch, from Vacaville, Calif., has played in 11 games for the Beavers this season and is batting .244 with two doubles, three home runs and 13 runs batted in.
Sixty catchers are on the initial watch list, with any additions set for May 6. Semifinalists for the honor will be announced May 19, while the finalists will be set June 3. The 2020 winner of the award will be announced June 25.
Claunch and Arizona's Austin Wells are the only two catchers from the Pac-12 on the 2020 initial watch list.
Claunch follows Adley Rutschman, who was the 2019 recipient of the award. Rutschman was the fourth player from the Pac-12 Conference to win the honor, which was originally named for Johnny Bench, and the first since 2015.
Logan Ice was also selected as a finalist in 2016.
