Alex McGarry, Ryan Ober and Troy Claunch (two) all drove in runs during the four-run frame. Cooper Hjerpe picked up the win after throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, striking out four.
McGarry On A Streak
Alex McGarry has hit safely in all seven games this season, and with that, has a 10-game hit streak dating back to the 2019 season. The redshirt junior is 14-for-42 (.333) with seven runs scored, eight RBI, four doubles and two home runs during the streak. He is 10-for-30 (.333) this season.
That .996 Fielding Percentage
Oregon State carries a .996 fielding percentage into the opener Thursday. That mark is good for second in the nation, just .0006 behind No. 1 UC Davis. The Beavers have gone six consecutive games without committing an error after opening the season with one versus New Mexico.
Versus San Diego State
Oregon State is playing San Diego State for the second consecutive season - a first for the programs since the Beavers won four of five from 2012-13. OSU holds a 13-8-1 series advantage, and is 7-3 over its last 10 versus the Aztecs. Oregon State last played at SDSU in 2013, sweeping the four-game series by a combined 22-2 advantage. Two future MLB pitchers, Matt Boyd and Andrew Moore, picked up wins in that series.
Armstrong Consistent At Short
Andy Armstrong is the lone Beaver to start every game at the same position this season. He has played all seven games at short, and is batting a team-leading .385 (10-for-26) with two doubles and three RBI. He is 9-for-20 (.450) in his last five games.
