Beavers Fall at USC

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Four Beavers scored in double-figures, but the No. 11 Oregon State women's basketball team fell to USC 72-66 Friday evening in Los Angeles, Calif.
 
"USC is a very competitive team with a lot of talent," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "We committed too many turnovers. Every night is a battle in this conference, so we will regroup and get ready for Monday."
 
Mikayla Pivec led the Beavers with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Taylor Jones put up 12 points and pulled down seven boards.
 
Destiny Slocum recorded 12 points, five assists and three steals in the contest. Kat Tudor hit all five of her free throw attempts to finish with 11 points and six rebounds. Maddie Washington also pulled down six boards.
 
As a team, the Beavers out-rebounded the Trojans 39-26. Oregon State also held a 34-24 advantage on points in the paint.
 
The teams traded punches early on, heading to the first media break knotted up at 11. Jones scored eight points in the opening period, as the Beavers ended the first quarter ahead 17-15.
 
Oregon State used s 7-0 second quarter run to go in front by five mid-way through the frame. The Beavers maintained the advantage from there, taking a 35-32 edge into the locker room. Pivec and Jones both headed to the intermission in double-figures.
 
USC battled back to take the lead at the third quarter media break. The Trojans led 51-45 heading into the closing frame.
 
The Trojans extended the lead to 11 at the final TV timeout. The Beavers answered with nine-straight points to get within one possession with 2:33 to play. Oregon State battled down the stretch, but USC took the win by six.
 
The Beavers will remain in Los Angeles over the weekend, and will face No. 7 UCLA on Monday, in a game that will air live on ESPN2.
