Michael Pitre Nominated For Broyles Award
December 08, 2020 | Football
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Oregon State running backs coach and recruiting coordinator Michael Pitre is one of 56 nominees nationally for the Broyles Award, which is given annually to college football's top assistant coach.
Pitre is in his third season at Oregon State, where he has helped develop Jermar Jefferson into one of the nation's top running backs. Jefferson has rushed for 675 yards and seven touchdowns on 91 carries this season. He is third nationally averaging just 169 rushing yards per game. Jefferson is one of 10 semifinalists for the prestigious Doak Walker Award after being named to its watch list in 2018 and 2019.
Pitre has coached Jefferson for three seasons, and worked with Artavis Pierce, now with the Chicago Bears, in his first two seasons in Corvallis. Jefferson and Pierce became the first two Oregon State teammates with 2,000-career rushing yards in the same season.
Pitre, who played as a running back at UCLA, served as an assistant coach at Montana State from 2014-17 and was a graduate assistant at Colorado in 2012 and 2013. He was a defensive assistant at Servite High School from 2009-11 and oversaw running backs at Rancho Santa Margarita High School in 2008. He also served as a New England Patriots scouting intern in 2009.
