Oregon State set to open season vs. California and Northwest

Season starts Wednesday
THE GAMES: Oregon State will open the 2020-21 season with back-to-back home games on Nov. 25 and 27, against California and Northwest.
QUICKLY: Wednesday's game will mark the latest season-opener for Oregon State since the Beavers beat Portland 81-64 on Nov. 26, 1996 ... The Beavers' game against California will be a non-conference contest ... OSU has won its last six home openers ... This will mark the 11th-straight season Oregon State has opened its season at Gill Coliseum ... Ethan Thompson was named to the preseason All-Pac-12 Second Team for the second-straight season ... Ethan Thompson has started all 94 games in his first three years at Oregon State. At that mark, Thompson is currently tied with his brother Stephen Thompson Jr., Drew Eubanks and Lamar Hurd for the eighth-most games started in Oregon State history ... Wayne Tinkle is 6-0 in season openers at Oregon State ... The Beavers finished the 2019-20 season 32nd in the nation in assist/turnover ratio at 1.27 ... With his next victory, Wayne Tinkle will move into a tie for fourth on in Oregon State history with 94 ... The Beavers will play 20 Pac-12 Conference games this season, as part of the league's new scheduling protocol.
vs. CALIFORNIA: Wednesday's game will mark the 154th all-time game between Oregon State and California. The two teams split the season-series last season, with each side winning on its home floor. Alfred Hollins played one of his best games of the season at California in 2019-20, scoring 14 points while going 8-for-9 from the free throw line.
The Beavers' last nonconference game vs. California (not counting conference tournament matchups) came in the 1987 NIT. The teams' last regular season nonconference meeting came at the 1984 Far West Classic in Portland, Ore.Â
vs. NORTHWEST: Oregon State will take on Northwest for the first time in the programs' history. Northwest is the first NAIA opponent the Beavers have faced since OSU took on Northwest Christian to open the 2015-16 season. No current Oregon State players took part in that contest.
