
Beavers Add Julia Melchert for 2021 Season

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State gymnastics program grew with another future Beaver with the addition Julia Melchert, head coach Tanya Chaplin announced on Wednesday.
Melchert joins a foursome in the 2020 recruiting class that includes Sydney Gonzales (Newport Beach, Calif. / Wildfire Gymnastics), Kaitlyn Hoiland (Kent, Wash. / Hart's Gymnastics Center), Anna Yeates (Roseville, Calif. / Byers Gymnastics Center - Roseville) and Ariana Young (San Mateo, Calif. / San Mateo Gymnastics).
Melchert, the daughter of Greg and Allison Melchert, is a two-time J.O. national qualifier. In 2019, Melchert won a pair of USGA Region 2 titles on the vault and floor exercise, was second in the all-around, third on the uneven bars and fourth on the balance beam. Her 2018 postseason was highlighted by a third-place finishes at Region 2 championships on the vault, beam, floor and in the all-around.
"We are very excited to have Julia join our program next season," Chaplin said. "She is a hard-working, talented gymnast and will add depth on several events. She is an excellent student and wonderful team leader that will blossom in our program."
Melchert trains at Metropolitan Gymnastics under coaches Julia Hancheroff, Guennadi Komissarov and Cathy Sutherland.
The Puyallup, Wash. native currently plans to study computer science and has already been awarded the Evergreen State scholarship as well as the College of Engineering Dean's scholarship.
