Beavers To Host Tournament At Waverley Country Club

CORVALLIS, Ore. – After winning the title at their first tourney of the season, the Oregon State women's golf team returns to action Monday and Tuesday when they host the Molly Collegiate Invitational at Waverley Country Club in Portland.
The Beavers are up to No. 4 in the latest Golfweek national poll, their highest ranking in program history.
FIELD (11): Oregon State, California, Colorado, Colorado State, Georgia, Oregon, San Diego State, Santa Clara, Stanford, UC Davis, Washington
COURSE: The tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,254-yard Waverley Country Club.
BEAVERS' LINEUP: Oregon State will go with a lineup of seniors Mari Nishiura and Nicole Schroeder, junior Ellie Slama and freshmen Chayse Gomez and Issy Taylor. Junior Amanda Minni and sophomore Lauren Murphy will compete as individuals.
FORMAT: Two-day, 54-hole tournament with 36 holes of continuous play on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. The top-four individuals from each five-member team with the lowest scores for each 18-hole round constitute the scoring members for that given round.
TEE TIMES: There will be a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday and tee times beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
ABOUT THE FIELD: Six teams in the field are ranked in the Top 50 in the latest Golfweek poll: Oregon State (8), Oregon (14), Washington (16), San Diego State (24), Georgia (48) and California (50).
Caterina Don of Georgia is No. 3 nationally in Golfweek's individual rankings. Oregon State concluded the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a 20-under 278-285-281--844 at the par-72, 6,277-yard Palouse Ridge Golf Course to cruise through the 15-team field in dominating fashion.
The Beavers finished ahead of five Pac-12 teams, including eight strokes better than second-place Oregon (12-under 852).
Oregon State's 20-under 844 is the second-lowest three-round score in program history. The Beavers never finished a three-round tournament under par in their first 41 years and have now done it six times the last three seasons.

Ellie Slama finished in second place with an 8-under 68-70-70--208. She now has five top-5 finishes and 10 top-10 finishes in her two-plus years at Oregon State. The All-Pac-12 golfer finished under par all three rounds in Pullman to make it 31 career sub-par rounds.
Nicole Schroeder fired a 6-under 66 in the final round to equal the school record and move 20 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for eighth place with a 4-under 72-74-66--212.
It's the sixth time an Oregon State golfer has shot a 6-under round and Schroeder had recorded three of them (Pac-12 Preview, Fall 2018; NCAA Regionals, Spring 2018; Cougar Cup, Fall 2019). Ellie Slama (Pac-12 Preview, Fall 2018; NCAA Regionals, Spring 2019) has done it twice and Olivia Benzin was the first to do it (Ron Moore Invitational, Fall 2017).
Two true freshmen -- Chayse Gomez and Issy Taylor -- made their collegiate debuts and played superb golf. Taylor finished in a tie for eighth place with a 4-under 68-70-74--212 and Gomez finished in a tie for 13th place with a 2-under 72-71-71--214.
Mari Nishiura finished in a tie for 42nd place with a 6-over 70-77-75--222.
Karen Miyamoto of Washington claimed medalist honors, finishing ahead of Slama by one stroke, with a 9-under 69-70-68--207.
