Beavers Look to Continue Three-Match Winning Streak

THE GAME: The Oregon State men's soccer team hits the road for the first time this season on Thursday, when the Beavers take on Grand Canyon in Phoenix, Ariz. OSU will return home Sunday to face UC Santa Barbara.

WHAT'S COMING UP: The Beavers will open Pac-12 play on Sept. 19 when UCLA visits Lorenz Field. That game will air live on Pac-12 Networks.

Quick Hitters:
- The Beavers are ranked No. 23 in the College Soccer News rankings this week, and are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
- Adrian Crespo was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Monday. Kolade Salaudeen was tabbed as an Honorable Mention for the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
- Crespo is tied for the lead in the nation with five assists
- The Beavers will play eight of their first nine matches at Lorenz Field. Oregon State will follow that with five-straight road games, before returning home for its final three regular season contests.
- OSU will not play a home game in the month of October.
- Sophomores Sofiane Djeffal and Gloire Amanda were both named to the All-Pac-12 Preseason Team this year.
- Amanda returned to the Oregon State side Monday, coming off the bench after missing the first three matches of the year due to injury.
- The Beavers were picked to finish third in the Pac-12 Coaches Poll, receiving one first-place vote.
- Oregon State has more international players (16) than American players (15) on this year's sqaud. The team features players hailing from five different nations (plus the US). The Beavers feature six players from Spain, as three each from England, Canada and France.

Last Season:
- Oregon State tallied the eighth 11-win season in program history.
- The Beavers won an NCAA Tournament game for the second time in program history, beating SMU at Lorenz Field.
- OSU's six Pac-12 wins marked the second-highest conference win total in team history. The Oregon State record for wins in a conference season came in 2003, when the Beavers went 7-3-0 to finish second in the Pac-10.
- The Beavers finished second in the Pac-12, matching the program's best ever finish in the Pac-12/10.
- Head coach Terry Boss was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year.
- Sofiane Djeffal earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors
- The Beavers went undefeated last season when leading at halftime.
- Don Tchilao and Djeffal made the Pac-12 First Team, Hassani Dotson and Gloire Amanda made the second team, Eric Diaz and Joe Hafferty were Honorable Mentions.

Fortress Lorenz:
- Oregon State was 9-1-2 at home last season.
- Aug. 30's loss to Coastal Carolina was OSU's first home loss since it fell in last year's season-opener on Aug. 24, 2018.
- The Beavers have won five-straight Pac-12 home games.

Super Sophomores:
- Oregon State returns six sophomore starters from last season's squad, as well as Adrian Crespo, who figures to play a large role this season.
- Sofiane Djeffal was Pac-12 Freshman of the Year last season.
- Djeffal's seven assists marked the highest total for a freshman in program history.
- Gloire Amanda led the Beavers with eight goals last season.
- Djeffal and Amanda both earned spots on the Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Best XI last season
- Sophomore Carlos Moliner will miss the entire 2019 season due to injury. The midfielder started 19 of Oregon State's 20 matches last season.
- Goalkeeper Adrian Fernandez played every minute for the Beavers last season, making Oregon State the only Pac-12 team to play a single goalie for the entirity of the 2018 campaign.

Bench Boss:
- Head Coach Terry Boss spent extensive time on the USA coaching staff during the NCAA offseason. Boss first join the national team for January Camp, and continued to work with the squad through a number of friendlies, before helping the US earn silver at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in June.
- 2019 marks the second season for Boss, who joined the Beavers after spending the prior four seasons as an assistant coach/associate head coach at Virginia.
- Boss is a native of Philomath, Ore., a town of 4,584 people located approximately five miles west of Lorenz Field.
- Boss played professionally as a goalkeeper for seven seasons, including four seasons in Major League Soccer with the New York Red Bulls and Seattle Sounders FC.
- The goalkeeper also saw time with the Puerto Rican national team, earning seven caps.
- Terry's brother Kevin Boss spent six seasons as a tight end in the NFL, winning a Super Bowl with the New York Giants in the 2007 season.

New Faces:
- Oregon State's 2019 roster features 12 newcomers, including nine freshmen.
- That total pales in comparison to last year's team, which featured 21 newcomers.

The Staff:
- Oregon State's coaching staff features three coaches who have won an NCAA national title. Boss was an assistant coach on Virginia's 2014 championship team. OSU assistant coach Ryan Zinkhan was a forward on that 2014 Virginia squad, while Beaver associate head coach BJ Craig won the 2013 title as part of Notre Dame's coaching staff.
- Craig spent 10 years on the Notre Dame coaching staff, putting together a record of 122-55-35 during that time.
- Zinkhan played in 78 career games for Virginia, including a pair of runs to the Final Four of the College Cup.
- Clint Long was a goalkeeper at Oregon State, before transfering to CSU Stanislaus, where he earned several conference and national awards.

Dam Worth It
- Former Beaver Nathan Braaten was intrumental in starting the Dam Worth It program at Oregon State. The program, which was spearheaded by Braaten along with former OSU gymnast Taylor Ricci, was designed for student-athletes in order to decrease the stigma surrounding mental health through education and awareness.
- Dam Worth It won the Giant Steps Award for Civic Leaders. The Giant Steps Awards are given out annually by the Institute for Sport and Social Justice.
- Oregon State goalkeeper Evan Munn has now taken over a leadership role with the program.

SuperDrafted:
- Hassani Dotson and Don Tchilao were both selected in the second round of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, making Oregon State one of six NCAA teams to have two players taken in the top 36 picks.
- The Beavers have had 11 player taken in the MLS Draft all-time, headlinged by No. 1 overall pick in 2010 Danny Mwanga and No. 2 overall pick in 2015 Khiry Shelton.
