Taylor Helps Propel England to Round of 16
June 21, 2019 | Women's Soccer
Corvallis – Former Oregon State women's soccer player Jodie Taylor (2004-07) helped propel England into the Final 16 of the Women's World Cup on June 22.
England recorded the first win in Group D on June 9 over Scotland. The Lionesses managed to edge out Scotland 2-1.
Taylor came up big for the Lionesses in game two of the group stages on June 14 against Argentina with the game-winning goal in the 61st minute of play. Taylor got the nod to start at center-forward and with her lone goal, secured the win and guaranteed England are in the last 16 of this World Cup. Taylor's goal was her seventh in nine major tournament games.
England put the finishing touches on the group round finishing with a 2-0 win over Japan on June 19. The win secured that the Lionesses would be the top team coming out of Group D. This is the second time the Lionesses have taken down Japan after beating them earlier this year during the SheBelieves Cup on March 5th.
England will face off against Cameroon on June 23 at 8:30 a.m. PT in Valenciennes, France.
