Andy Armstrong went 2-for-3 with a double and Beau Philip hit a third-inning double but the Beavers dropped a 2-0 decision to USC Thursday night in the series opener at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. Bryce Fehmel scattered six hits and two unearned runs in 6 1/3 but took the loss. Christian Chamberlain struck out five in 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
Standings Friday
UCLA's 4-2 win over Oregon coupled with the Beavers' loss to USC and Stanford's to Arizona State gave the Bruins the 2019 Pac-12 title. The Beavers and Cardinal are now 2 1/2 games back with two conference games to play and are battling for second place.
