Former Beaver Continues to see Success on International Stage

Oregon State standout Jodie Taylor is once again making her mark on the international stage this coming summer, as a forward for the Lionesses, England's Women's National Team.
Â
It was announced on January 8th that Taylor would be participating in training camps with the Lionesses as part of the 28-player training roster with the official World Cup squad being announced on May 8. Taylor last joined the England squad for the 2017 European Championships where she earned the Golden Boot after scoring five goals and helping England reach the semi-finals. She also was a part of the 2015 World Cup team.
"It is always an honor and privilege to be selected to play for my country," said Taylor. "I have been fortunate to have been a part of the teams at the 2015 World Cup and the 2017 European Championships."
After being selected, Taylor joined England to help win the 2019 SheBelieves Cup with two assists in the final game against Japan on March 5th. The first assist came in the 12th minute with a short, quick pass to teammate, Lucy Stanforth, who took three touches forward and score from just outside the 18-yard box. The next assist came in the 23rd minute from a cross pass to teammate, Karen Carney, who had a snap header to double England's lead. England finished with a 3-0 victory. This marked England's first SheBelieves title in four appearances.
Â
"Playing against Japan and helping the team win by contributing two assists was the highlight of the tournament," said Taylor. "This was my fourth SheBelieves Cup so it was great to finally win."
Taylor is hoping to continue her success with England this summer at the Women's World Cup when the Lionesses face Scotland (June 9), Argentina (June 14) and Japan (June 19) in Group D. England has its eyes set on making it past the Group Matches round to the Round of 16 played from June 22 to June 25. The Quarterfinals run from June 27-29, Semifinals on July 2 and 3 with the Final played on July 7. England has four finals appearances with the best performance coming from a third-place finish in 2015.
Â
"I am so excited for the World Cup!" continued Taylor. "Major tournaments are amazing experiences. All three games are going to pose different challenges and will be tough."
Â
Along with training with England's WNT, Taylor plays with the Seattle Reign in Seattle, Wash. Taylor signed with the Reign FC at the start of the 2018 season and quickly settled into the National Women's Soccer League becoming a crucial goal scorer finishing with nine goals last season to help the Reign on the road to a third-place NWSL finish. Taylor joins the Reign again this season. The Reign opened the season on April 14 with a tie in Houston against the Houston Dash.
Â
"It's going to be a busy few months!" exclaimed Taylor. "I recently got back from another National Team trip in England where we played Canada and Spain. My first game of the season for Reign was a couple weekends ago. I think I'll get around five games in for Reign before leaving for the World Cup."
Â
Taylor remains the Oregon State's career leader with 47 goals, leading the team in points each of her four years (2004-07). During her tenure, Taylor earned Pac-10 First Team honors four times, as well as a trio of NSCAA Far West All-Region honors.
