George Mendazona set a career-best with three hits as Oregon State opened the series in Los Angeles with an 8-0 loss to UCLA Friday night. Mendazona singled twice and doubled down the left field line in the seventh inning.

Mendazona's Big Night
George Mendazona's three-hit night marked his second multi-hit effort of the season, surpassing his previous best of two versus Nebraska on Feb. 23 in Surprise, Ariz. Mendazona started at third base for the third time this year on Friday, and for the first time since Feb. 24 against Nebraska.

Same As 2011?
Oregon State's loss Friday marked its first to open Pac-12 Conference play since 2011 at Arizona; the Beavers dropped that game 18-0. Oregon State went on to win 10 consecutive conference games after that loss en route to a 17-10 Pac-10 record and second-place finish.

Adley Rutschman drew his 24th walk of the season and 104th of his career on Friday. That moves him into eighth place in the Oregon State record books and is 16 shy of tying Michael Conforto and Danny Hayes for first at 120.

The Beavers' loss Friday marked only the 20th for Oregon State since the 2017 season. The club is 124-20-2 over the past two-plus seasons. That's a winning percentage of .856.
