Six Beavers Earn Pac-12 Academic Honors

Pivec named to All-Academic First Team
CORVALLIS – Six Oregon State women's basketball players have earned academic honors from the Pac-12, the conference office announced Thursday. Mikayla Pivec was named to the Academic First Team, while Katie McWilliams and Destiny Slocum notched Second Team honors. Taya Corosdale, Aleah Goodman and Janessa Thropay were selected as Honorable Mentions.
Pivec, who earned CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team honors earlier this week, notches her second Pac-12 Academic First Team honor as a BioHealth Sciences major with a 3.93 overall GPA. In addition to her work in the classroom, Pivec works with numerous community service organizations, including Beavs Care, Community Outreach, Inc, and IMPACT. On the court, the All-Pac-12 selection is averaging 14.9 points and a team-best 9.1 rebounds per contest this season.
McWilliams was a Pac-12 Second Team Academic selection last season, as well as an Academic Honorable Mention her freshman year. The Kinesiology major with a 3.79 GPA earned Pac-12 Defensive Honorable Mention this season, and made the Maui Classic All-Tournament Team. Over the course of her four seasons, McWilliams has played in 135 games, four short of Marie Gulich's program record.
Slocum earns Pac-12 academic honors in her first season eligible to earn an award. The Digital Communication Arts major has a 3.69 GPA and was named a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award this week. An All-Pac-12 selection, Slocum leads the team with 16.0 points per game, and is shooting 46.6 percent on the year.
Corosdale is a Human Development and Family Science major, and has started 30 of Oregon State's 31 games on the year. She is averaging 6.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, and has 16 career double-digit scoring games.
Goodman, also a Human Development and Family Science major, was named the first ever Pac-12 Sixth Player of the Year this season. The sophomore is 39th in the nation in 3-point percentage, and is averaging 10.5 point per game.
Thropay was a Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team honoree last season, and is majoring in Speech Communication. The junior's season has been highlighted by a 10-point performance vs. La Salle.
As a team, Oregon State will head into the postseason with a record of 24-7. The Beavers now await the NCAA Tournament Selection Show, which will take place on March 18.
