Guard earns another national honor
CORVALLIS – Redshirt-sophomore Destiny Slocum has earned more national recognition this week, as the point guard was named to the Wooden Award Late Season Top-20.
The list is comprised of 20 student-athletes who are the front-runners for some of college basketball's most prestigious honors, the John R. Wooden Award All American Team and Most Outstanding Player Award. The list is chosen by a poll of national women's college basketball media members.
Slocum, a digital communication arts major, is averaging a team-high 16.2 points per game this season, and is shooting 47.4 percent from the floor. The Meridian, Idaho native is fifth in the Pac-12 with 5.3 assists per game, and has converted 50 3-pointers on the year, among the top-seven in the conference.
The guard has eight 20-point games this season, including six in the Beavers' last nine contests. Slocum has previously been named to the Lieberman Award Watch List and the Naismith Trophy Watch List.
As a team, Oregon State is 19-3 on the season, and is coming off a win over No. 14 Utah on Sunday. The Beavers will carry a 9-1 Pac-12 record into Friday's matchup with No. 11 Stanford.
