February 26, 2019 | Women's Gymnastics
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Oregon State gymnast Kaitlyn Yanish was named the Pac-12 Specialist of the Week for Feb. 18-24 when weekly honors were announced by the Pac-12 Conference office Tuesday.
Yanish, a sophomore from Chandler, Ariz., won two of her events in a win at Arizona State on Friday. She scored 9.90 on the vault to set a career-high posting the meet's top score. She went on to score 9.925 on the floor exercise to tie teammate Isis Lowery for the event title on that apparatus as well.
Through seven meets in 2019, Yanish has established career-highs on every event. She registered career-best scores of 9.975 on floor, 9.800 on beam, 9.750 on bars and 39.250 in the all-around earlier this year against UCLA.
This is Yanish's first career Specialist of the Week honor and is Oregon State's first since Madeline Gardiner in 2014. It is OSU's 17th specialist award overall. Last season, Yanish, who is majoring in digital communication arts, was named as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week in early March.
UCLA's Kyla Ross and Norah Flatley received Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week and Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors respectively.
The Beavers, who are ranked No. 15 this week, host a tri-meet this Friday when Bowling Green and Alaska Anchorage visit Gill Coliseum at 7 p.m.
