TEMPE, Ariz. – The Oregon State gymnastics team, ranked No. 12 this week, earned another road win Friday over No. 20 Arizona State, 196.650-196.625, to remain unbeaten away from home in 2019. The Beavers posted their highest road score of the season, eclipsing the 49-point mark on all four events.
The Beavers moved to 7-2 overall with the win, while the Sun Devils fell to 6-7 on the season.
"I know we have more in us and we will be better," head coach Tanya Chaplin said. "We haven't put it all together on the road yet, but we are getting closer. I am proud how this team continues to learn and grow from each experience."
Oregon State took a slim early lead scoring 49.175 on the uneven bars. Seniors Mary Jacobsen and Mariana Colussi-Pelaez each tallied scores of 9.850 to lead the squad while juniors Isis Lowery, Halli Briscoe and Sabrina Gill each posted scores of 9.825. Sophomore Colette Yamaoka added a career-high tying 9.750.
Leading 49.175-49.125 heading into the second stanza, OSU used a career-best 9.90 by Kaitlyn Yanish to score 49.100 on the event. Madi Dagen and McKenna Singley added scores of 9.825.
Tied at the halfway point at 98.275-98.275, the Beavers recorded a meet-high 49.225 on the floor exercise behind impressive performances by Lowery and Yanish, each of whom registered 9.925s to tie for the event title. Savanna Force and Singley added scores of 9.875 and 9.825 respectively giving OSU a 147.500-147.425 lead.
The Beavers used a strong finish to hold off the Sun Devils putting up a score of 49.150 on the balance beam. Sabrina Gill tied her career-high with a 9.90 to win the event title. Colussi-Pelaez added a career-best 9.850 on the beam while Lacy Dagen posted her own 9.85.
The Beavers return to Corvallis to host Bowling Green and Alaska Anchorage at Gill Coliseum next Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m.
