Beavers Set to Open Season at Mountaineer Invite

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State Wrestling team is slated to open up its schedule at the Mountaineer Invitational, hosted by Appalachian State, on Saturday, Nov. 11.
Contested in Boone, N.C., the event will feature a handful of other Division I schools with wrestling set to begin at 6 a.m. PT inside Holmes Convocation Center and will continue throughout the day. The Beavers will compete against Air Force, host Appalachian State, Central Michigan, Duke, Gardner-Webb, Kent State and West Virginia.
The event will feature a pair of NCAA qualifiers from a season ago, redshirt junior Devan Turner (133) and redshirt sophomore Grant Willits (141), who are also both ranked by multiple publications in their respective weight class. Turner is currently ranked No. 14 at 133 pounds by Intermat and No. 17 by TrackWrestling.
Willits is slated at No. 18 at 141 pounds in both Intermat and TrackWrestling's rankings. Freshman Logan Meek is also currently ranked by TrackWrestling, sitting at No. 18 at 149 pounds. Redshirt junior Colt Doyle rounds out the current rankings as he is slated No. 26 at 174 pounds (TW).Â

"We're just going to see where we're at," head coach Jim Zalesky said. "We'll try to figure out some weights and see who can step up. These first two meets will give us a good feel of competition and see where we have to work."
The 2019-20 season marks the program's 110th season and is the fourteenth under head coach Jim Zalesky. The Beavers will compete in 13 dual matches, including five inside Gill Coliseum. Oregon State will host its first dual match of the season on Saturday, Jan. 10 as they take on Northern Colorado at 7 p.m. PT inside Gill Coliseum.Â
FloWrestling will be in attendance to have live results/video for each of the seven mats in competition at the Mountaineer Invitational. Fans can follow the event live here.Â
The remainder of the team will simultaneously compete on Saturday as they wrestle in the Clackamas Open in Forest Grove, Ore. Results will be posted following the conclusion of the event and fans can follow along here.Â
