November 25, 2019 | Women's Golf
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State women's golf head coach Dawn Shockley announced Monday that two student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to join the program beginning with the 2020-21 season.
The class includes Danique Stokmans from Wassenaar, South Holland, Netherlands and Madde Sund from Skollersta, Sweden.
"I'm looking forward to Madde and Danique joining our family in September," Shockley said. "Both of them will be a vital part in growing our culture and building the foundation this team has put in place. I'm very excited for their future at Oregon State."
Danique Stokmans
Stokmans attends Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar and is currently a member of Dutch National Women's Team after competing on the Dutch National Girls Team from 2017-19. She won the 2019 Kennemer Open, 2018 and 2019 National Foursome, 2018 and 2019 Women's Match Play Champion at Royal The Hague Golf & Country Club, and the 2018 Women's Stroke Olay Champion at Royal The Hague Golf & Country Club.
Sokmans finished second at the 2019 National order of Merit and tied for second at the 2019 Dutch International Amateur Championship. She also finished fifth at the 2019 European Team Championship in Spain and eighth at the 2018 European Team Championship in Sweden.
She was named the Player of the Year at Royal The Hague Golf & Country Club in 2018 and was a semifinalist at the Girls National Match Play Championship in 2018 and 2019.
Her hobbies are golf, field hockey, skiing and exploring the world.
She chose Oregon State because: "After playing the European Girls Championship in Valencia, Spain, Dawn contacted me and asked if I was interested in joining OSU. From the first moment I talked to her, to my official visit, I knew OSU is the place for me. During my visit I instantly felt at home and witnessed great team spirit and interaction between coaches and players. Serious practice combined with fun gave me a very positive feeling. The positive atmosphere and great facilities at Corvallis and OSU will give me the opportunity to develop myself as a person and succeed at the University. It will also give me the possibility to get the best out of my golf. I can't wait to join the women's golf team and experience the American way of living. I look forward to bring team-spirit, positivism and my best golf to our team. Ready for some Dutch in the Beaver Nation!"
Madde Sund
Sund attends Filbornaskolan,Helsingborg and was the recent medalist at the 2019 Vikingaskeppet Junior Masters Invitational. She also won the 2018 Cobra Puma Junior Chalange, 2018 Teen Tour Future, 2017 Skandia Tour Future, 2016 Skandia Tour Regional and 2015 Skandia Cup.
Her hobbies are skiing, being in the nature and all kinds of training.
She chose Oregon State because: "I like the coaches and the team was so kind to me. The golf courses are near the school, which I think is good. I think the climate in Corvallis will be good for me."
