Get To Know Isaac Hodgins
November 14, 2019 | Football
What aside from football do you enjoy most about Oregon State?
Isaac Hodgins: "I like the community. Oregon State isn't really a religious setting so I like going out and talking with people about my church and other spiritual things like that."
What has been your favorite class at Oregon State?Â
IH: "My favorite class is one that I'm in right now called the History of Africa. Also, I took one last term which is called World Views and Values in the Holy Bible so I like that one."
How would you describe what it's like to play for Coach Suiaunoa?Â
IH: "Coach Legi (Suiaunoa) is a very energetic, up-tempo coach that wants you to be physical and upbeat all the time."
Does your number mean anything to you?
IH: "I just kind of picked it. I came in early and said this one looks the best, so I picked it."Â
What was your first impression of Oregon State when you were being recruited? How has that changed, if any?
IH: "It felt homey. I'm from from out in the Bay Area, Oakley, so not many people know it. It's in a big urban area but Corvallis felt like home. I feel like a lot of people say that, it's just an inviting place."
What would you be doing if you didn't play football?
IH: "I would be a world missionary or evangelist for the Christian faith."
What teammates do you hang out with away from the field the most?
IH: "My brother, obviously (Isaiah Hodgins). Also, Isaac Garcia, James Rawls, Elu Aydon and all those defensive line guys."
If you could meet any historical figure, dead, or alive, who would it be, and why?
IH: "It has to be Jesus Christ. He's healing people left and right and raising people from the dead. That'd be awesome.Â
Do you have any pre-game superstitions?
IH: "I'm a big visual person since my dad played in the NFL and he always told us visualizing things is the biggest part of the game. So, every game I visualize all of the bad things I can make and put them in a box and destroy them. I destroy it and blow it up and then think of all the good plays I can make and put that in a box in my brain."
What life lessons has football taught you?
IH: "I think the biggest one is overcoming adversity. Every football player is going to come across when they're working really hard but things aren't going your way. It's just about trusting in your hard work that's going to pay off and I think that applies big to life."
Â
What doors has football opened for you that you never thought would be possible?
IH: "It's definitely a platform that opens up a lot for you. When you play football, you're not just another face in the crowd since people are always looking at you. I think something cool I got to do was go to the Juvenile Hall in Salem and talk to the inmates there. Being able to hear some of their stories and bless them was the coolest thing I've done so far here."
What does an Oregon State education mean to you?
IH: "I think it's just bigger than yourself and about the work you put in to get one. Especially at this university and people respect getting a degree from here. It would mean overcoming a lot of adversity to get that degree."
