DURHAM, N.C. – Oregon State junior catcher Adley Rutschman has been named a preseason All-American First-Team selection by Baseball America, it was announced Monday.
Rutschman was one of three unanimous First-Team selections by Baseball America, which polls scouting departments with Major League organizations. Per the publication, 15 teams responded this year.
Rutschman had previously been recognized by D1Baseball.com, Collegiate Baseball, and Perfect Game. He was also selected as the projected preseason player of the year by Collegiate Baseball in December.
The Sherwood, Ore., native earned preseason honors after batting .408 with a school-record 102 hits and 83 runs batted in last season. He hit nine home runs, tallied 22 doubles and walked 53 times. Rutschman set the College World Series record with 17 hits, and was named the Most Outstanding Player.
He was recently awarded the Richard "Dick" W. Case Award, which is given annually to USA Baseball's top player in honor of the organization's founding Executive Director and CEO. He received the honor during the first half of the Oregon State men's basketball game versus Washington State last Thursday.
