Beavers Cross Country Pulling Double Duty This Weekend
September 26, 2018 | Women's Cross Country
CORVALLIS, Ore. – After a three-week hiatus the Oregon State University cross country team is slated for two events this weekend as they travel to Madison, Wisc. for the Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday night, followed by the Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem on Saturday.
You can follow along with the action on Friday for the Nuttycombe Invitational via the live stream on FloTrack, or via the live stats. Â Results from both meets will be posted following the conclusion of the races and will be available on OSUBeavers.com.
It has been a number of weeks since the Beavers last competed. "We've spent the last three weeks putting in work, and everything has been getting into a normal schedule with school being in session," began head coach Louie Quintana. "The girls have put in a lot of practice and continue to get batter every week.
The last time out, OSU took second place at the Sundodger Invitational after taking first place in their season opener.
"We are adding some girls to our varsity roster this weekend that didn't compete at Sundodger [Invitational]," said Quintana. "We have a good group of seven that we are taking on Friday to get an opportunity to see where we are at in this program's ascent."
Making the trek to Wisconsin this weekend are senior Juliana Mount, sophomores Brigette Takeuchi, Audrey Lookner and Lexi Reed, and freshmen Haley Wolf, Mari Friedman and Grace Fetherstonhaugh.
"This meet is much like the NCAA Championships with more than 30 teams in attendance," said Quintana. "Our expectations for ourselves are high this weekend, but there is no pressure or stress from the outside which will allow us to compete at our highest level."
In total, there are 33 teams scheduled for the women's race which begins at 10:20 a.m. PT at the Zimmer Cross Country Course on Friday. There are fifteen teams represented inside the top-30 that will be in attendance including No. 1 New Mexico, No. 2 Colorado, No. 5 Boise State, No. 6 NC State, No. 7 Wisconsin, No. 8 Villanova and No. 9 Arkansas.
After a return journey home, the Beavs will head north to Salem to run in the Charles Bowles Invitational on Saturday morning at 10:20 a.m. PT.
"We have a deep squad this year and that is why we elected to go to Willamette [University] on Saturday morning," said Quintana. "We feel that we have six or seven other women that are emerging as well and could eventually run for us at the Pac-12 Championships."
A six-woman contingent will be sent to Willamette U. on Saturday morning: Rebecca Ledsham, Batya Beard, Mikayla Sodersten, Maddie Fuhrman, Alyssa Foote and Alexa Hayes. Sodersten is the only one who has yet to compete this season. The sophomore sat out all of last season with an injury.
Following this weekend the Beavers take another short break before they head south to Santa Clara, Calif. for the Bronco Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13.
