Men’s Basketball Holds First Official Practice
September 25, 2018 | Men's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State head coach Wayne Tinkle had a message to his team before the first official practice on Tuesday.
"Let's get after it and make it a great day. Every day and every way we get a little better. It starts now."
With that the 2018-19 season was officially underway.
The Beavers will be one of the most experienced in the Pac-12 with four starters returning. Stephen Thompson Jr. and Tres Tinkle both joined the 1,000-point club last season, while Ethan Thompson, Alfred Hollins and Zach Reichle all played quality minutes as true freshmen.
The team added depth in the frontline with the addition of 7-footers Kylor Kelley and Jack Wilson, 6-foot-11 forward Warren Washington and 6-foot-10 forward Payton Dastrup, a transfer from BYU. Freshmen guards Jordan Campbell and Antoine Vernon are expected to contribute immediately.
The Beavers went 12-4 at Gill Coliseum last season, including a dramatic double-overtime win over Washington when Thompson Jr. hit a 3-pointer with 0.3 seconds on the clock.
The non-conference schedule was released earlier this month and the Pac-12 weekly matchups and site designations was announced in mid-July. The full schedule will be announced this week and include dates, game times and television partners.
Gill Coliseum will have several enhancements for the 2018-19 season. An HD center-hung video board will feature two 14.5-foot-high by 26-foot-wide displays facing the sidelines and two 9.5-foot-high by 16.5-foot-wide displays facing the ends of the arena. New LED lighting will allow for flexibility to be turned off for starting lineup introductions and create different levels of lighting depending on the event.
Fans can secure men's basketball season tickets by calling 541-737-2050. For returning ticket holders, season tickets will be $349 for chair back and $199 for bench seats as part of the "Committ2Wayne" plan. All new chair back season tickets will be $384 and new bench season tickets will be $219.
