The Game —
- Oregon State opens Pac-12 Conference action when hosting Arizona Saturday afternoon at Reser Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:07 p.m. PT.
- The game is slated to air on the Pac-12 Networks.
- Every game this season can be heard live via the TuneIn application, which is available online and on smartphones and tablets. To find the game, once the app has been downloaded, search "Beaver Sports Network."
- The Beavers and Wildcats are meeting for the fourth consecutive season and 39th time overall. Arizona holds a 23-15-1 lead in the all-time series.
- Oregon State is 8-9-1 in Corvallis versus Arizona and has won seven of the last nine games played in Reser Stadium dating back to the 1999 season. That includes a 42-17 win in 2016.
- The Beavers are playing their Pac-12 opener at home for the first time since 2015 against Stanford. Oregon State opened at Colorado in 2016 and at Washington State in 2017.
- Oregon State run game coordinator/offensive line coach/associate head coach Jim Michalczik coached at Arizona from 2013-17. He coached in four bowl games with the Wildcats, including the 2014 Fiesta Bowl.
- Michalczik helped the Wildcats to a 309.3-yard per game rush average in 2017.
- Arizona offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Noel Mazzone was OSU's running backs/special teams coach in 2002. And UA's safeties coach John Rushing served in the same capacity at Oregon State in 2017.
- Oregon State is coming off a game in which the Beavers saw two players total 100 or more yards receiving - Isaiah Hodgins had 200 and Timmy Hernandez finished with 116 - with Jermar Jefferson hitting the 100-yard rushing mark for the second consecutive game. He finished with 106 yards versus Nevada.
30-For-30 —
- Oregon State has scored 30-plus points in each of its first three games, marking the longest streak since the 2014 season when a QB Sean Mannion led offense posted 31 vs. Cal, 32 vs. WSU and 35 vs. ASU.Â
- Oregon State hasn't opened the season with three consecutive games of 30-plus points since 2013 when the team jumped out to a 6-1 record with an offensive onslaught that featured consecutive scoring games of 46, 33, 51, 34, 44, 52 and 49.
A True Freshmen "Quizz" —
- Running back Jermar Jefferson has posted two 100-yard plus rushing games already this season, which ranks third among all-time OSU greats for true-freshmen in a season.Â
- Jacquizz Rodgers had seven such games during the 2008 season and Seth Collins had a trio in 2015. Â
- At 130.3 yards per game, Jefferson leads the Pac-12 and ranks seventh in the country. Â Jefferson narrowly leads Indiana's Stevie Scott (129.3) for the national lead by a true freshmen and for all players, is tied for second for rushing TDs with six.Â
Trending Toward Second —
- Jermar Jefferson current rushing average would put him at 1,564 yards for a season, trailing only Steven Jackson's 2002 season of 1,690 yards for the single season OSU rushing record.Â
- He is on pace to set the Beaver record for rushing touchdowns in a season – current pace is 24 TDs. The record is 21 by Jacquizz Rodgers in 2009.
Nobody Is More Perfect —
- Oregon State is truly perfect when it comes to fourth down conversions. The Beavers are 5-for-5 and are among 13 teams that have not failed a conversion attempt. Of those teams, OSU has converted the most.
Move Over Cooks & Hass —
- Isaiah Hodgins threatened the Oregon State single-game receiving record versus Nevada, tying Brandin Cooks (2013 versus San Diego State) and Mike Hass (2004 versus Arizona State) for the most in one game with 14.
- Hodgins also ended the night with 200 yards and two touchdowns. The 200 yards ranks as 10th-most in a single-game at Oregon State.
- Timmy Hernandez tallied 11 receptions for 116 yards against the Wolf Pack. The last time OSU saw two players with 11 or more catches came in 2008 versus Stanford, when Shane Morales caught 13 passes and Sammie Stroughter finished with 12.
- The duo, coupled with Jermar Jefferson's 106 rushing yards, gave the Beavers two players with 100 or more yards receiving and one rushing since 2012 when Brandin Cooks, Markus Wheaton and Terron Ward accomplished the feat versus Arizona State. All three have gone on to play in the NFL.
Holding Steady —
- Both Oregon State and Nevada failed to score in the third quarter Saturday. It's the first scoreless quarter featuring the Beavers since the second quarter in the fifth game of the 2017 season, coming against Washington.
Going For Win 34 —
- Head coach Jonathan Smith is 33-7 all-time at Reser Stadium as an Oregon State player (18-5), graduate assistant (12-2), opposing coach (2-0) and OSU head coach (1-0). He picked up win No. 33 in the 2018 home opener versus Southern Utah, a 48-25 final.
Wear Orange —
- Oregon State fans are encouraged to wear orange to Saturday's game.
Chewing Up Big Yards —
- Oregon State's offense has already racked up 22 plays of 25 or more yards from scrimmage this season.Â
- That's in significant contrast to the 2017 Beavers, who finished with just 25 plays of 25 or more yards.
- Eight of the 2018 team's 22 long plays have come on the ground, with Jermar Jefferson totaling five and Artavis Pierce recording three.Â
- Again, in sharp contrast to last season, those eight rushes of 25-plus yards are already more than last season's Beavers, who finished with five.
- The Beavers did not tally a rush of more than 25 yards versus Nevada, but finished with seven receptions, including a season-long 51-yarder by Isaiah Hodgins on a pass from Jake Luton. Oregon State's long in 2017 was a 48-yarder by Noah Togiai.
