Aquino Ready to Take Game to Next Level

Oregon State freshman hails from Paraguay
A native of Caacupe, Paraguay Andrea Aquino comes into Oregon State as the highest ranked recruit in program history. Growing up playing soccer Aquino hadn't played basketball until age 15, but she didn't let that slow her down as she went on to average a double-double throughout her years of high school in the United States; first in New Jersey and then in California. Now she's excited to take the next step in her basketball career coming to Corvallis.
"I can't wait to start the season, I want to get out and show that I can compete at this level," said Aquino.
After coming to campus in late June along with the rest of her freshman class, Aquino says she is adjusting well to Corvallis, and that the town itself is one of the reasons she decided to come to Oregon State, along with her connection to the coaching staff.
She says she has loved the support she has gotten from Beaver Nation already, and is looking forward to getting to playing great basketball.
"Corvallis reminds me of home. It's a very nice small town very similar to where I grew up," Aquino said. "On top of that the coaching staff has always been amazing. I can't wait to get into the season and get to practicing and playing with all of my teammates. It's so great the way that everyone in the community treats you here, it's all like one big family. "
The entire team is itching to get back to the court and get the 2018-19 season underway, and Aquino is certainly no exception to that. After playing for two years in high school and AAU in the United States, she's gotten a taste for the competition on the court and can't wait to battle it out with the best of the best in the Pac-12.
"The level of competition is what I'm most excited for looking forward to this season," Aquino said. "I think it's the best conference in the country and I'm looking forward to getting to compete against the best players in the country."
