
Ellie Slama Qualifies For U.S. Women’s Amateur

WOODBURN, Ore. – Oregon State rising sophomore Ellie Slama fired a 5-under 67 on Monday to earn a trip to the 2018 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.
Slama had eight birdies at the par-72, 6,173-yard OGA Course to share medalist honors with Ty Akabane and earn one of the coveted six spots to advance to the U.S. Women's Amateur.
The 118th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship will be held Aug. 6-12 at the par-71, 6,365-yard Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs, Tenn. The 156-player field will compete in 36 holes of stroke play with 64 players advancing to match play, beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 8.
Slama recently captured the women's title at the 109th Oregon Amateur Championship, which concluded on June 23 at the Bend Golf Club in Bend, Ore. She was the medalist and match play champion at the 2015 and 2017 Oregon Junior Amateur.
A native of Salem, Ore., Slama set the Oregon State single-season scoring average record this past season as a freshman with a 72.79. She shot 10 sub-par rounds and won the individual title at the Ron Moore Invitational with an Oregon State three-round record score of 11-under 205.
Championship History
The U.S. Women's Amateur Championship is one of the United States Golf Association's original three championships. It was first conducted in 1895, shortly after the inaugural U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open. The Women's Amateur has been conducted every year since, except 1917-18, when it was suspended due to World War I, and 1942-45, when it was suspended due to World War II.
