Schroeder Caps Another Great Season For Beavers
May 20, 2018 | Women's Golf
STILLWATER, Okla. – Nicole Schroeder played well again at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championships on Sunday to cap another successful season for the Oregon State women's golf team.
Â
Schroeder, a sophomore from Rocklin, Calif., concluded her play at the NCAA Championships with a 12-over 77-73-78--228 at the par-72, 6,328-yard Karsten Creek Golf Club. She had one birdie and 14 pars in the final round.
Â
Second-year head coach Dawn Shockley led the Beavers to the NCAA Regionals in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2000-2001. They finished in seventh place in Lubbock Texas last year and eighth in Madison, Wis., this year.
Â
For the first time in program history an individual qualified for the NCAA Championships in consecutive seasons, as Susie Cavanagh made it last year and Schroeder earned a spot this year by winning the individual title in Madison.
Â
They joined All-American Kathleen Takaishi (1999) and Anica Yoo (2015) to make it to the final stop in women's college golf.
Â
Oregon State notched five consecutive top-five finishes during the spring to earn another trip to postseason play:
Â
5th place -- Westbrook Spring Invitational
              3rd place -- Meadow Club Women's Collegiate
              4th place -- Entrada Classic
5th place -- Anuenue Spring Break Classic
5th place -- Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational
Â
Freshman Ellie Slama posted the best single-season scoring average in school history (72.79), while junior Olivia Benzin and Schroeder both set the program single-round record with a 6-under 66.
