Beavers Set to Host High Performance Meet
April 25, 2018 | Women's Track & Field
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Former Olympians and Oregon State's strongest team since the program's reinstatement will compete at the sixth annual High Performance Meet this Friday and Saturday at the Whyte Track & Field Center.
Â
Approximately 700 competitors are expected for the event, which has evolved from modest beginnings to become the jewel of OSU's outdoor season, and one of the premier regular-season meets in the Pacific Northwest.
Â
"We are becoming a go to place for this time of the season," OSU coach Louie Quintana said. "It's great for the community to come out and support Oregon State Track & Field and we want to continue to expand the event with new ideas each year."
Â
25 teams are expected to be in attendance spanning all levels of collegiate athletics. Teams competing are Oregon State, Oregon, Gonzaga, Colorado, Idaho, Portland State and more.
Â
"We are excited to unveil our new hammer cage in "Throwvallis," said Quintana. "Also, this year we have added a middle school 800M Corvallis Challenge and the Spring Six, a 6K road race on Saturday morning to enhance the community experience.
Â
"Hopefully at next year's iteration we can keep expanding our ideas to make our event even more unique and exciting."
Â
This is the fourth year of a two-day meet, which starts on Friday afternoon with an expanded Distance Carnival, the pole vault, the hammer and the discus. The Distance Carnival includes the 1,500 and 5,000-meter races, and the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Â
Saturday's competition starts at 10 a.m. with the javelin. The first track event is the 4x100 relay at 1 p.m.
Â
The High Performance Meet is the lone home appearance for the Beavers, who have set three school records since starting the outdoor campaign at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open on March 16. They also have posted 18 all-time top-10 times or marks.
Â
Current Oregon State record holders; Destiny Dawson holds the school record in the javelin, 168-9. Jessica Molina reclaimed the school record from Lindsay McShane (180-9) last weekend with a throw of 183-11 in the hammer throw.
