Slama Leads Beavers At Pac-12 Championship

SEATTLE, Wash. – Freshman Ellie Slama finished in a tie for 27th place to lead the Oregon State women's golf team at the Pac-12 Championship on Tuesday.

The Beavers concluded the three-day, 54-hole tournament with a 47-over 302-304-305--911 at the par-72, 5,981-yard Broadmoor Golf Club to finish in 11th place.

"We beat ourselves out there today," Oregon State head coach Dawn Shockley said. "We have no one to blame but us. We played three poor rounds of golf as a team.

"We will take this as a learning experience and grow. We are a very young team and I know these ladies will bounce back from this."

Oregon State will find out Wednesday if it earned a trip to the 2018 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships. The official announcement will be at 2:30 p.m. on Golf Channel and streamed live on the Golf Channel website.

Seventy-two teams and 24 individuals will be selected to compete at one of four regional championships, each featuring 18 teams and six individuals, May 7-9. From regional competition, 24 teams and 12 individuals will advance to the national championships to be played May 18-23 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.

Slama, a native of Salem, Ore., played well in her first conference championship, posting an 8-over 73-75-76--224. She had a team-best eight birdies during the tournament, including four in the final round.

Senior Susie Cavanagh and sophomore Nicole Schroeder both finished in a tie for 34th place with a 12-over 228. Cavanagh posted scores of 77-74-77 and Schroeder had rounds of 74-78-76.

Junior Olivia Benzin finished in a tie for 44th place with a 15-over 78-77-76--231 and freshman Amanda Minni shot a 20-over 79-80-77--236 for 52nd place.

UCLA won the team title with a 4-under 860, while USC finished second with an 8-over 872, and Arizona and Stanford tied for third with a 9-over 873.

Patty Tavatanakit of UCLA defeated her teammate, Lilia Vu, in a one-hole playoff for medalist honors.

TV coverage of the Pac-12 Championship will air in a tape-delayed, 30-minute special debuting on Saturday, May 5 at 10 a.m. on Pac-12 Network, Arizona, Los Angeles, Oregon and Washington.
