McShane Sets School Record in Hammer Throw at Stanford Invitational
March 31, 2018 | Women's Track & Field
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – For the second straight day a member of the Oregon State track and field team set a school record at the Stanford Invitational. Lindsay McShane set a new school record in the hammer throw with 180-feet 9-inches.
"There was a lot of great things that happened this weekend," began head coach Louie Quintana. "We have adjustments to make, but I like where we are and how we are attacking competition."
McShane broke the record set just last week by Jessica Molina at the Willamette Invitational; 174-feet 5.5-inches. Sydney Guthrie-Baker upped her fourth-best throw to 171-feet 7-inches.
"The throwers were terrific this weekend," said Quintana. "Lindsay [McShane] and Destiny [Dawson] each threw a school record this weekend; we will be competing for points in the throws at the conference meet."
Nicole Goecke became just the fourth in OSU history to eclipse the 2:10 mark in the 800 meters. On Saturday, Goecke ran a time of 2:09.16, the second-best time in the Oregon State record books.
Kala Kopecek used a time of 2:11.22 to take first place in her flight, and record the fasted 800-time of any Beavers competing. Her time moved her into the top-10 in Oregon State history into fifth place. Kristiane Width also placed first in her heat with a time of 2:15.67.
On day one of competition, Destiny Dawson set a school record in the javelin with a throw of 163-feet 8-inches. Collette Richter ran the second-best time in history in the 10,000 meters (34:39.47). Richter is just the second in OSU history to eclipse the 35-minute mark.
"I'm pumped about Collete's [Richter] performance," said Quintana. "She almost broke the school record and her time should get her to regionals."
