OSU No. 24 in National Poll, No. 16 in First RPI
March 21, 2018 | Softball
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State University softball team is ranked for the second straight week in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll following a 2-1 series win over then-ranked No. 16 California in the Pac-12 Conference opener this past weekend at OSU Softball Complex.
OSU combined its national ranking with an impressive top-20 ranking in the first NCAA Women's Softball RPI of the 2018 season. The Beavers come in at No. 16 in the RPI released by the NCAA on Tuesday. The Beavers hold the sixth-highest RPI amongst Pac-12 schools behind Oregon (No. 1 RPI), Washington (No. 2 RPI), UCLA (No. 3 RPI), Arizona State (No. 7 RPI), and Arizona (No. 9 RPI).
This marks the second-straight week that Oregon State (19-10, 2-1) has been nationally ranked. The Beavers made their first appearance last week at No. 25 following a 4-1 weekend at the CSUN Tournament which saw a win over No. RV Texas Tech. OSU is receiving votes in this week's USA Today/NFCA Coaches poll.
The Beavers received 50 points in the poll this week, 25 points behind Oklahoma State in 23rd. OSU holds a 2-0 record against the Cowboys this season with wins on Feb. 9 (8-2) and Feb. 22 (4-2).
Of the 32 opponents on the Oregon State schedule 13 of them are currently ranked in the top-25 in the RPI. However, eight of those 13 teams are in the top-10 with three of them holding the top spots (1. Oregon. 2. Washington. 3. UCLA)
This weekend, the Beavers head south to play No. 4/4 UCLA at Easton Stadium on March 24-26.
