Beavers Open Series With 3-2 Win
March 02, 2018 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Adley Rutschman's two-run double in the seventh inning helped push the Oregon State baseball team to a 3-2 win over Hartford Friday at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
The Beavers, ranked as high as No. 1 nationally by Collegiate Baseball, came-from-behind to open the four-game series. Rutschman laced a 1-2 pitch from reliever Drew Farkas off the fence in left, enabling Jack Anderson and Steven Kwan to score.
That backed up a sharp start by starter Luke Heimlich, who scattered six hits and two runs in 7 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked three to earn the win, improving to 3-0. He was relieved by Christian Chamberlain and Dylan Pearce, with the latter picking up his first career save after 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
Rutschman paced the Oregon State (9-0 overall) attack with a 2-for-4 day.
Tyler Malone drove in the game's first run with a single in the fourth. The Hawks (1-4) scored two in the sixth, first off a fielder's choice, then via a double from Zachary Ardito.
Seth Pinkerton took the loss for Hartford, dropping to 0-1 after allowing two runs and four walks in 1 2/3 innings. Starter Jake Regula allowed four hits and a run in 4 2/3 innings, and did not figure in the decision.
