March 13, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State volleyball program added its second transfer in the last week with the addition of Amy Underdown, who signed a financial aid agreement, head coach Mark Barnard announced Tuesday. The transfer from Northeastern University will arrive in Corvallis this summer with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Â
"Amy is a very important piece of our recruiting puzzle for our 2018 class," Barnard said. "She is a proven performer at the college level and honed her skills at one of the top junior clubs in the country, 951. She is a powerful hitter with all the skills to play in all six rotations."
Â
Underdown, who hails from Temecula, Calif., played two seasons at Northeastern. As a freshman, she registered three double-doubles including 12 kills and 13 digs in her collegiate debut against Drake in the Huskies' season-opener. Underdown enjoyed a breakout season as a sophomore, leading her team with 3.97 kills per set, 4.52 points per set, and 41 service aces. The 6-foot-1 outside hitter, recorded career-highs with 28 kills against UNC-Wilmington, the second-most in program history, and 21 digs against Boston College.
Â
A four-year varsity starter and two-time captain at Great Oak High School, Underdown was part of three championship seasons including an undefeated run in the Southwestern League as a sophomore. She also was a three-year starter on the 951 Volleyball Club's 18-open team where she initially played as a middle blocker before converting to the left-side.
