Five Beavers Earn Pac-12 All-Academic Honors

Pivec highlights group with first-team recognition
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's basketball team has tallied five Pac-12 All-Academic honors for the 2017-18 season, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Sophomore Mikayla Pivec headlines the group, earning First Team recognition. She is joined by Second-Teamers Katie McWilliams and Janessa Thropay, as well as Honorable Mentions Marie Gulich and Taylor Kalmer.

Pivec has a 3.98 GPA as a BioHealth Sciences major, and earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors this season. Oregon State's December Student-Athlete of the Month, Pivec has started every game this season, and leads all Pac-12 guards in rebounding with 7.3 rebounds per game. The sophomore earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention this season, and is shooting 44.6 percent from the floor on the year.

McWilliams was an Academic Honorable Mention last season, and currently holds a 3.74 GPA as a Kinesiology major. The junior leads Oregon State in minutes per game this season with 32.3, and earned both All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention and All-Pac-12 Defensive Honorable Mention this season.

Thropay earns All-Academic Second Team honors in her first season eligible for the award, holding a 3.75 GPA as a Speech Communication major. The sophomore has seen action in 18 games this season, and is shooting 41.7 percent from the floor.

Gulich is a Business Administration major, and earned All-Pac-12 honors for the second-straight season this year. The center is the Pac-12 Defensive Media Player of the Year, and has 1,120 career points, placing her 17th in Oregon State history.

Kalmer also earned Pac-12 Academic Honorable Mention last season as a Merchandising Management major. The junior has played in all 30 of Oregon State's games this season, and has recorded nine double-digit scoring performances.

Oregon State will open up the NCAA Tournament on Friday, when the No. 6-seed Beavers take on No. 11-seeded Western Kentucky. That game is slated to tip off at 9 a.m. PT and will air live on ESPN2.
