Oregon State picked up a No. 2 ranking by the NCBWA on Tuesday
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State baseball will enter the 2018 season as the unanimous No. 2 team in the country after the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced its preseason top 35 on Tuesday.
Â
The Beavers, like the five previous polls, trail only Florida.
Â
Per the NCBWA, No. 3 Texas Tech, Florida State and TCU round out the top five.
Â
Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America, D1Baseball.com, Perfect Game and the USA Today Coaches all ranked the Beavers second prior to the NCBWA poll, which is the last major ranking to be unveiled.
Â
Oregon State finished the 2017 season ranked third after advancing to the College World Series, where the Beavers were one of four teams remaining. OSU set a school record with 56 wins – 31 of which came at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field – and the pitching staff led the nation with a 1.93 earned run average. That also set a school record, bettering the 2014 staff's 2.28 mark.
Â
2018 opponents for the Beavers who will open the season ranked by the NCBWA include No. 10 Cal State Fullerton (at Goss Stadium March 9-11), No. 12 UCLA (May 24-26 at Goss Stadium) and No. 13 Stanford (at Goss Stadium May 11-13). Oregon State visits No. 30 Arizona April 6-8 in Tucson, and No. 35 Missouri State April 13-14 in Springfield, Mo.
