Beavers Start Strong At Spring Opener
February 25, 2018 | Women's Golf
PEORIA, Ariz. – The Oregon State women's golf team opened its spring season with the second-lowest round in program history on Sunday.
Â
The Beavers had three players finish under par, which helped them fire an 8-under 280 in the first round of the Westbrook Spring Invitational. The school record is a 10-under 278 at the NCAA Regionals in Lubbock, Texas in the spring of 2017.
Â
Oregon State shot an even-par 288 in the afternoon at the par-72, 6,252-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club Vistas Course and is tied for sixth place with Notre Dame with an 8-under 568.
Â
Nebraska leads the 15-team field with a 20-under 556, while Oklahoma (18-under 558), Ohio State (17-under 559), Wisconsin (11-under 565) and Indiana (10-under 566) round out the top five.
Â
The final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. PT (8:30 a.m. MT) on Monday and live scoring is available at birdiefire.com.
Â
"It was a good start to the spring for the Beavers," Oregon State head coach Dawn Shockley said. "We played pretty well the first round and battled through the second. We'll be back at it for 18 more holes tomorrow, and we look forward to seeing how the team develops this season."
