Larnach Paces Beavers In 16-7 Offensive Onslaught
February 18, 2018 | Baseball
Larnach paced an Oregon State lineup that rapped out 20 hits against six Cal Poly Pitchers. He homered – for the third consecutive game – and doubled in a 4-for-4 effort. His four runs batted in gave him seven on the season, and led four other Beavers who tallied two – Adley Rutschman, Preston Jones, Zak Taylor and Andy Armstrong.
Seven other Beavers (3-0 overall) also had multi-hit efforts in the win. Cadyn Grenier tallied three, with Rutschman, Taylor, Jones, Steven Kwan, Nick Madrigal and Michael Gretler all finishing with two.
Bryce Fehmel picked up in the win in his first start of the season. The junior right-hander allowed seven hits and four runs in 6 2/3 innings. He is 1-0.
Cal Poly (1-2) starter Bobby Ay took the loss after allowing five hits and six runs in 2 2/3 innings. He is 0-1.
Larnach's home run – his third in as many games – came in the second and started an Oregon State offensive onslaught that saw the Beavers post multiple runs in four other innings – four in the third, two in the fourth, three in the sixth and five in the seventh. The Beavers sent 10 to the plate in the five-run seventh.
Larnach
Trevor Larnach became the first Oregon State player to homer in three consecutive games since Michael Conforto versus Bryant in 2013.
Even More Larnach
Larnach is 8-for-9 in his first three games, and has also drawn three walks to start the season. Of those eight hits, five have gone for extra bases – two doubles and three home runs – en route to seven RBI. He has reached base safely in 11 consecutive plate appearances after striking out in his first at bat of the season in the win over New Mexico on Friday.
Debuts
Six Beavers made their collegiate debuts in the win. Zack Zalesky, Ryan Ober and Zach Clayton came in as subs late in the game, while Kevin Abel, Nathan Burns and Dylan Pearce saw action out of the bullpen. Joe Casey picked up his first at bat – a walk – after entering as a pinch runner Saturday versus Gonzaga.
