December 04, 2018 | Football
CORVALLIS -- True freshman running back Jermar Jefferson has been selected the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year, league commissioner Larry Scott announced Tuesday. Jefferson is the second running back in Beaver history to be highlighted with the honor joining Jacquizz Rodgers in 2008.
Jefferson, from Harbor City, Calif., broke the OSU freshman rushing record in the recently completed season with 1,380 yards – the sixth-highest single season mark in school history. In addition, the sociology major is the second back in OSU history with a pair of 200-plus rushing yards games in the same season.
"This is something like no other," Jefferson said. "I have dreamed about this my whole life. I have to give a big shout out to my running backs coach (Michael Pitre), for being a great teacher, our offensive line coach (Jim Michalczik), Coach (Jonathan) Smith and definitely our offensive line."
Jefferson currently ranks eighth in the nation for rushing yards and will complete the season as the national leader for yards by a freshman.
In addition Jefferson added Pac-12 Honorable Mention honors joining wide receivers Isaiah Hodgins and Trevon Bradford, and special teams standout Andre Bodden. Hodgins, a speech communication major and Bradford, a sociology major, also both were also selected to the Pac-12 Academic Honorable Mention team.
