November 29, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
SAN FRANCISCO – Six Oregon State volleyball student-athletes have been named to the Pac-12 All-Academic teams, including Grace Massey on the first team, when the conference announced academic teams Thursday.
Massey is joined on the list by Haylie Bennett, Makenna Browne and Lindsey Schell all of whom were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team. In addition, Kayla Ellis and Maddy Gravley received honorable mention recognition.
It is the third time Ellis and Gravley have been recognized for their academic work.
Thursday's announcement marks the 13th straight season the Beavers have had at least five selections on the Pac-12 All-Academic teams.
To be eligible for selection to an all-academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and have participated in at least 50-percent of competitions in the regular season.
Massey, a sophomore studying business administration, played as the starting libero in all 32 matches in 2018 leading the Beavers' back row defense with 560 digs, the third-most in Oregon State single season history.
Bennett, also a sophomore majoring in kinesiology with an option in public health, began the season as OSU's starter at right-side hitter. She finished the season third on the squad with 2.07 kills per set. However, her season was marred by a series of injuries allowing her to play in just 20 of 32 matches.
Browne, a junior who studies chemistry with an option in biochemistry in OSU's Honors College, played as a defensive and serving specialist for the Beavers in 2019. Browne set career-bests in every statistical category including posting 13 service aces.
Schell, a redshirt freshman studying kinesiology, started 30 out of 32 matches at middle blocker. She finished her first season on the court for the Beavers ranked second on the team with 98 blocks.
Ellis, a senior captain majoring in kinesiology with an option in therapy and allied health, played as the Beavers' primary defensive specialist. She was second on the team in service aces with 27 and finished her OSU career with 1,484 digs, the third-most in Oregon State history.
Gravley, also a senior studying biology with a minor in chemistry and an option in pre-med, started every match for OSU at middle blocker. Gravley finished the season with 129 blocks to lead the squad and totaled 278 blocks in her career, good for 13th all-time at Oregon State.
