CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's soccer team had 11 players earn Pac-12 All-Academic honors, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Senior Kate Evans (psychology) and redshirt freshman Mylene Gorzynski (biochemistry and molecular biology) both earned first-team recognition. Evans was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team earlier this year, after seeing time in 20 games over the course of the past two seasons as a Beaver.
Gorzynski notched her first academic honor in her first year eligible for the award. She played a season-high 84 minutes against California this season to help the Beavers net a 2-1 victory.
Senior Allison Pantuso (psychology) earned second-team recognition. Pantuso has been a staple in the OSU lineup with 74 career appearances and scoring three goals for the Beavers.
Kaillen Fried (accounting), Lindsay LaMont (nutrition), Toni Malone (psychology), Shea O'Connor (kinesiology), Diana Santiago (ethnic studies and sociology), Emery Wallerich (digital communication arts), McKenzie Weinert (digital communications arts) and Jessi Witherington (pre-therapy kinesiology) all earned All-Academic Honorable Mention.
Fried saw action in all 19 games this season, making 16 starts. LaMont recorded 47 saves throughout the season, including a career-high 12 against No. 1 Stanford.
Malone was the lone Beaver to start all 19 matches this season as a forward. O'Connor saw time in 19 matches this season, including 13 starts.
Santiago tallied eight shots during the 2018 season, three of which were during the last game of the season at Oregon. Wallerich made 16 starts while seeing time in 17 games.
Weinert scored goals in back-to-back games this season, including a game-winning goal in overtime against Dartmouth. Witherington saw action in 17 games, making 15 starts – primarily in the defensive unit.
Oregon State's honorees included one three-time award winner (Pantuso), as well as three two-time honorees (Santiago, Wallerich and Witherington). Evans and Gorzynski's First-Team honor marks the first time an OSU women's soccer player has made the First-Team since Bella Geist in 2015 and the first time more than one player has made the first team since Brandi Dawson, Jenna Richardson and Brittney Oljar were honored in 2013.
