Beavers Go to Pullman, Then Home for Civil War

ON TAP
• The Oregon State volleyball team will be all over the Pacific Northwest this week traveling to Pullman, Wash. before returning to Corvallis for Senior Night to close the 2018 season.
• OSU (11-19, 1-17 Pac-12) first travels to the Palouse to take on No. 20 Washington State (19-9, 10-8) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
• The Beavers return to Corvallis to host Oregon (18-10, 11-7) in the Civil War brought to you by PacificSource Health Plans, Spirit Mountain Casino, Safeway/Albertsons, Your Local Toyota Dealers and First Interstate Bank, on Saturday at 7 p.m.

SENIORS
• It is Senior Night at Gill Coliseum on Sunday. Four Oregon State seniors - Shekinah Clarke, Kayla Ellis, Maddy Gravley and Daniela Vargas - will be honored prior to pre-game introductions.
• Clarke is expected to graduate with a degree in public health this summer.
• Ellis is scheduled to graduate with a degree in kinesiology in June.
• Gravley is on target to graduate with a degree in biology with an option in pre-med in the fall.
• Vargas is on track to graduate with a degree in business with a minor in new media communications in June.
AGAINST THE COUGARS
• The Beavers and Cougars face off for the first time this season. OSU trails the all-time series 44-48, but is coming off a season sweep of WSU in 2017. In fact, Oregon State has won the last three matches against the Cougars overall and the last two in Pullman.
AGAINST THE DUCKS
• Oregon State trails the all-time series with oregon, 43-66. The Beavers last defeated the Ducks in the 2014 season finale. OSU took it to five sets in Corvallis in 2017 before falling in the fifth.
LAST WEEKEND
• Oregon State went to five sets in both matches last weekend against Utah and Colorado.
• Amy Underdown registered 26 kills, the most by an OSU player in 2018, and her personal-mark since arriving at Oregon State against the Utes. Kayla Ellis collected a season-high 21 digs as well.
• Maddie Goings led the OSU attack with 19 kills and Daniela Vargas shattered her career-high with 13 kills against the Buffaloes. Grace Massey led a strong back row defense with 30 digs to match her career-high.
DIGGING INTO THE RECORD BOOK
• Senior Kayla Ellis is extremely likely to move into third on OSU's all-time career digs list. Ellis enters the weekend with 1,470 digs and needs 14 this weekend to pass Tricia Becker (1987-90) to move into third.
• Ellis averages 3.23 digs per set in her career a mark that will safely go down as the fifth-best mark in OSU history when her career comes to a close on Sunday.
MORE DIGGING
• Libero Grace Massey ranks fifth in the Pac-12 with 4.55 digs per set. She has led, or tied for the lead, the Beavers in digs in 25 out of 30 matches in 2018.
• Massey has accumulated 519 digs in 2018, the fourth-most ever in a single season by and OSU player. 519 digs also represents the second-most by an OSU sophomore. Massey needs to 36 to tie Becky Defoe's 555 for the most by a sophomore (and third-most in a season) in OSU history.
• Massey's 4.55 digs per set also ranks as the second-best rate by an OSU sophomore in history and fourth-best in any season at OSU.
GET THAT OUT OF HERE
• Senior middle blocker Maddy Gravley has registered 126 blocks for 1.12 blocks per set in 2018. Both marks rank in OSU history for a senior.
• In addition, freshman middle blocker Lindsey Schell has notched 96 rejections to tie for eight in the OSU record books by a freshman.
SETTING THE TABLE
• Freshman setter Maddie Sheehan moved into the starting lineup at the Rose City Showdown, in time for the fifth match of the season, and has started every match since.
• Sheehan has collected 929 assists and averages 8.68 assists per set for the season. Both marks rank fifth all-time for a freshman in Oregon State history.
TOP OF THE PAC
• Oregon State ranks fourth in the Pac-12 with 2.43 blocks per set.
• The Beavers are also fourth in the conference with 15.75 digs per set.
ACES
• Sophomore libero Grace Massey was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week following the opening week of the season. Massey accumulated a conference-high 65 digs at the Iowa State Challenge and was named as a tournament co-MVP.
• Freshman setter Maddie Sheehan was named as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week following the SDSU/USD Challenge. Sheehan tied her career-high with 44 assists and added career-bests with six kills and five blocks in a win over San Diego.
• Earlier this season, junior middle blocker Serena Bruin came off the bench to record 12 block assists at San Diego State. Her 12 block assists tie for the second-most in a single match in OSU history.
• The day after Bruin's feat, senior middle blocker Maddy Gravley posted 12 blocks of her own at San Diego, including 10 block assists, which rank tied for ninth on the school's all-time list.
ON THE SIDELINE
• Sophomore opposite hitter Haylie Bennett is sidelined due to injury and remains unlikely to play this week.
• Senior Kory Cheshire is out for the season due to an undisclosed injury.
• Senior outside hitter Shekinah Clarke will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury.
• Both, Cheshire and Clarke, will apply for another year of eligibility and intend to return to the program in 2019.
NLI SIGNINGS
• Mark Barnard and his staff signed three student-athletes for the 2019 season last week. The Beavers addressed three areas of need - outside hitter, defensive specialist/libero and setter.
• The class consists of Mary Kate Lopez, a setter from Mount Prospect, Ill., Cecilee Max-Brown, an outside hitter from White Rock, B.C. and Mykenna Nelson, a defensive specialist/libero frm Phoenix, Ariz.
HALL OF FAME
• Last month, Oregon State held an OSU Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2018 induction ceremony. Among this year's inductees was the 1969-70 and 1970-71 Oregon State volleyball teams.
• The 1969-70 team captured the Pacific Northwest Trophy and won their first 21 matches. The team finished 23-3 making it to the "Sweet 16."
• The 1970-71 team gained momentum at the end the of the season and advanced to the "Elite Eight" going 5-1 in the postseason for an overall mark of 22-8.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAMS
• SDSU/USD Challenge - Amy Underdown was chosen as the MVP after leading the team in kills in each match as the Beavers went 3-0 including a five-set upset of No. 23 San Diego. Maddy Gravley was also named to the all-tournament team.
• K-State Invitational - Haylie Bennett and Maddie Sheehan were named to the all-tournament team.
• Iowa State Challenge - Maddie Goings and Lindsey Schell were each named to the Iowa State Challenge All-Tournament Team and Grace Massey was selected as a tournament co-MVP on the season's opening weekend.
