November 15, 2018 | Football
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Timmy Hernandez, a senior wide receiver from Phoenix, Ariz., has been named a Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 honoree, CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) announced on Thursday.
Hernandez, a mechanical engineering major, now has an opportunity to be named an Academic All-American; that team will be released in early December.
Hernandez was a 2017 Pac-12 All-Academic First-Team selection in his first year of eligibility after transferring from Pima Community College as a sophomore in 2016. In addition to his mechanical engineering major, he is also chasing a minor in aerospace engineering and is slated to graduate in December.
On the field, he became the 31st player in school with 1,000 or more career receiving yards earlier this season and currently ranks 26th in school history with 1,127. This year, he is tied for first on the team with 48 receptions and is second with 529 receiving yards.
Hernandez is aiming to become the first Beaver to be named an Academic All-American since Aaron Koch was selected to the second team in 1999.
Sports information directors from across the country vote for the All-District and All-America teams. District 8 is comprised of players from the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai'i, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington and also from Canada.
