October 18, 2018 | Men's Soccer
STANFORD, Calif. – Gloire Amanda and Albert Pedra found the net for the Beavers, as the Oregon State men's soccer team battled No. 12 Stanford to a 2-2 draw Thursday evening in Stanford, Calif.
Â
Amanda scored the first goal of the match, finding the net for his third goal in as many matches. The tally is the freshman's team-leading seventh of the season. Pedra scored the first goal of his collegiate career in the 45th minute.
Â
Oregon State started the match on the front-foot, controlling the early possession and earning a pair of corner kicks within the first 12 minutes. Hassani Dotson took aim from distance in the 15th minute, but his shot was deflected wide for the Beavers' third corner of the match.
Â
Freshman Sofiane Djeffal followed that up with a chance two minutes later, weaving through a trio of Cardinal defenders before missing his shot just wide of the post. Amanda found the breakthrough in the 21st, as he capitalized on a turnover inside the Stanford box to find the net with his first touch.
Â
Don Tchilao looked like he might add a second in the 31st minute, but his attempt from the right side of the box was blocked out of play. The senior found himself 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper moments later, but he lost his footing at the top of the penalty area.
Â
Stanford tied things up in the 36th, but Oregon State answered as the clock ticked down on the first half. Tchilao had his shot from the left side saved, but Pedra was there to clean up the rebound, finding the net from six yards out on the right side two seconds before the halftime whistle.
Â
Tchilao got the Beavers started in the second half, running 60 yards with the ball before curling an effort wide of the post from 18 yards out.
Â
Defender Kolade Salaudeen nearly netted his first career goal in the 57th, but his header was cleared off the line by a Stanford defender. The Cardinal curled one just inside the post in the 68th minute to bring the match back to level terms.
Â
Amanda forced a save from 20 yards out in the 78th minute, but neither team could decide the game in regulation and the match headed to overtime.
Â
It was Amanda with a chance to end things early in the extra frame, but his header was off target. Oregon State's back line held firm in the extra periods as the match ended in a draw.
Â
Junior Loke Strenov made his first start of the season, playing 88 minutes in the contest.
Â
The Beavers will head across the Bay for a Sunday matchup with California.
